Finishing operations remove burrs, blend fabrication marks, prepare surfaces and produce specified visual or functional conditions. The required finish should be defined by drawing, sample, specification or agreed acceptance criteria.
Functional and cosmetic requirements
A functional deburr is different from a decorative polish. The quotation should therefore identify whether the objective is safe handling, assembly fit, corrosion-treatment preparation or a visible product finish.
Process planning
Material, geometry, access, production quantity and the risk of dimensional change are considered before the finishing route is approved.
