Cam-operated automatic turning uses mechanically controlled cycles and dedicated tooling to manufacture repeat components efficiently. Once a process is proven and set, multiple operations can be completed in a continuous production cycle.
Commercial suitability
This process is strongest where component design and demand are stable enough to justify setup, tooling and production planning. Prototype or low-volume work may be better suited to CNC production before transfer to an automatic route.
Technical qualification
Bar diameter, profile, material, part length, operation sequence and tool availability are assessed before the process is selected.
